Finland: European Union Intranet for officials

eGovernment news

Helsinki, 6 June, 2003 (Esmerk) — In Finland, the Prime Minister's Office is creating an Intranet for European Union issues that will handle the distribution and preparation work of European Union documents of all the Ministries. The system is already in use in the European Union's Secretariat and representation as well as in six Ministries and the National Board of Customs.

All officials who deal with European Union issues will have access to the system, named the EU-tori [European Union forum], in the next few years and it will replace several previously used systems. The number of users will increase from about 3,000 to over 5,000 in two years.

The system supplier is TietoEnator. The forum is based on the Documentum content management system. Vesa Liikanen from the Prime Minister's Office estimates that about 3,500 documents a month pass through the forum at the moment. During the six-month initial phase, about 25,000 documents have been collected in the data base.
